I am noticing a trend amongst our competitors in the market. They are feeling the consequeces of the economic downturn OR they are just not well positioned to defy the economy.
At Avanade we still saw our operating income and revenue growing in 2011 and we are still hiring!
With great people we can Realize Results and defeat the economic downturn.
David Chappell delivers a great overview in this presentation on cloud platforms as they exist in the market today! Definitely worth watching.
Together with the people of Dutch BizTalk user group I am organizing the next meeting on the 29th of June at our Avanade office in Almere.

During my current project I ran into a annoying and kind of misleading error message when building Biztalk schema’s with BTS 2010 in combination with TFS 2010. The errormessage is similar to “MySchema.xsd.cs’ could not be opened (‘Unspecified error ‘)”
The reason and a possible solution is explained in this blogpost http://pofox.blogspot.com/2010/08/biztalk-schema-build-error.html But unfortunately that solution didn’t work for me:(
After that I also tried the registry hack mentioned by Charles Young: http://geekswithblogs.net/cyoung/archive/2005/01/22/20633.aspx
And also the solutions proposed on this blogpost http://blog.biztalk-info.com/archive/2010/09/29/Could_not_open_Schema.xsd.cs_fileunspecified_error.aspx
But all with no luck!
After trying a rebuild I suspected it had something to do with rights, so I started to investigate the folder structure. Then I had my lightbulb moment.
TFS put the read-only flag on my workspace folder. After removing the read-only flag from the folder I was able to build again. So in the end it’s just another solution to an already known problem in blogosphere 🙂
When 2011 started I formulated a couple of personal goals for this year. Two of them were:
1) Write an article for the Dutch .NET magazine. I finished writing my article last week and it will probably be published in the March edition of the magazine.
2) Develop more knowledge on cloud computing and take the Windows Azure exam. I noticed that the exam is LIVE now. A good preparation is the Windows Azure Platform Training Kit. I will take the exam somewhere in the near future and I will let you know the outcome, which is hopefully “passed” 🙂
Details on the exam can be found here!
This Thursday the first Dutch Windiws Azure User Group meeting will be organized. The location for this first meeting is the Sogeti office in Vianen.
You can find all the details @ http://www.sogeti.nl/evenementen/2011/1e-windows-azure-user-group-nl-meeting
If you are still not convinced about the advantages The Cloud has to offer or if you want to know more about the best practices for adopting Windows Azure, then I suggest you attend the following webinars.
p.s. Yesterday I received an email that the new BizTalk Hotrod issue is OUT now.
I want to wish all the readers of my blog a happy new year!!
This new year brings also a new project for me. With a team of Avanade people we started today and we are going to build a system for requesting all kind of licenses. Such as for operating a large boat or driving a taxi. We are going to use all of the latest technologies BizTalk 2010, Sharepoint 2010 and CRM 2011. So that will probably result in some interesting blogposts!
I also want to get two more certifications this year:
- Windows Azure
- BizTalk Server 2010
Furthermore I will be writing an article on creating hybrid cloud solutions with BizTalk AppFabric Connect for Services. The article might get published in the Dutch .NET magazine.
Would be interesting to hear what other peoples goals are for this year?!
Best Wishes for 2011!
You can build websites with ASP.NET, Silverlight or other technologies like PHP. But after you have build the website, people need to alter things on the website. You don’t want to be called for each and every thing they want to change on the website. So you are better off to start with a content management system right away!
Most content management systems are not for free, but Umbraco is for free and it is even based on the .NET framework. You can even run Umbraco on Windows Azure.
I tried to use it some years ago, but at that time there was a lack of documentation. This week is the first Dutch Umbraco User Group meeting at The Microsoft office at Schiphol. I will attend this meeting because I want to see how Umbraco is improving. Umbraco is greatly appreciated amongst the community and receives good reviews. Let’s see if they can make me a fan of their product too:)
You can find all the details of the meeting HERE.
