BizTalk Schema Build Error

During my current project I ran into a annoying and kind of misleading error message when building Biztalk schema’s with BTS 2010 in combination with TFS 2010. The errormessage is similar to “MySchema.xsd.cs’ could not be opened (‘Unspecified error ‘)”

The reason and a possible solution is explained in this blogpost http://pofox.blogspot.com/2010/08/biztalk-schema-build-error.html But unfortunately that solution didn’t work for me:(

After that I also tried the registry hack mentioned by Charles Young: http://geekswithblogs.net/cyoung/archive/2005/01/22/20633.aspx

And also the solutions proposed on this blogpost http://blog.biztalk-info.com/archive/2010/09/29/Could_not_open_Schema.xsd.cs_fileunspecified_error.aspx

But all with no luck!

After trying a rebuild I suspected it had something to do with rights, so I started to investigate the folder structure. Then I had my lightbulb moment.

TFS put the read-only flag on my workspace folder. After removing the read-only flag from the folder I was able to build again. So in the end it’s just another solution to an already known problem in blogosphere 🙂

The exam 70-583 Designing and Developing Windows Azure Applications is now available!

When 2011 started I formulated a couple of personal goals for this year. Two of them were:

1) Write an article for the Dutch .NET magazine. I finished writing my article last week and it will probably be published in the March edition of the magazine.

2) Develop more knowledge on cloud computing and take the Windows Azure exam. I noticed that the exam is LIVE now. A good preparation is the Windows Azure Platform Training Kit. I will take the exam somewhere in the near future and I will let you know the outcome, which is hopefully “passed” 🙂

Details on the exam can be found here!
